Southern California Edison and CSU San Bernardino Partnership

The fuel cell system is a collaboration between CSU San Bernardino and Southern California Edison (SCE) as part of a statewide alternative energy initiative, to demonstrate the fuel cell generation technology. Constructed, operated, and maintained by SCE, the fuel cell system consists of a 1.4 megawatt (MW) molten carbonate fuel cell module manufactured by Fuel Cell Energy (FCE) and a heat recovery system. The power generated by the fuel cell is delivered directly to SCE’s 12kV local distribution grid that serves both CSU San Bernardino and the local community. In addition, the heat produced by the fuel cell is used in the campus’ high temperature hot water system, helping to reduce CSU San Bernardino’s energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
