Digital Energy, Inc. is a premier engineering consulting firm in Southern California providing high quality energy consulting services to clients throughout the United States for nearly 21 years. The firm was founded in 1989 by Jairam (Jai) Agaram who has over 30 years of experience in the energy industry.
Jai Agaram, P.E.
President
For over 30 years Jai and his team has provided professional consulting services to the energy industry in the field of building mechanical and electrical systems, energy modeling of buildings, study of central heating and cooling plants, cogeneration plants and renewable energy resource projects including photovoltaic and fuel cell based power generation projects. During his career, Jai has conducted energy efficiency related feasibility studies, investment grade audits, long term strategic plans, campus-wide infrastructure studies, building and central plant commissioning services and has provided consulting services to numerous public sector clients in the study, design, commissioning and development of energy efficiency projects. During the last 7 years, Jai has successfully lead Digital Energy, Inc. to serve as the prime consultant to the California Energy Commission for providing energy related studies to California school and public facilities in identifying and developing building energy efficiency projects. For the last 5 years, Jai has also served as a member of the Mechanical Review Board (MRB) for the California State University (CSU) System. Jai has co-authored several building design and infrastructural planning related guidelines referred to by the Architectural and Engineering teams working on CSU building related projects.
Tom Brown, P.E., C.E.M.
Vice-President
Tom has over 30 years of experience in facilities and related systems design, construction and operations. His areas of expertise include HVAC, control and energy systems and facilities operations. Tom has performed key administrative and management oversight roles of hundreds of millions of dollars of complex building and infrastructure design, construction and renovation projects. Tom played a key role in the successful recovery and rebuilding of CSU Northridge after the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Tom has also been a leading driver of alternate energy systems installations within the CSU system having installed 692kW of Photovoltaic power, the first 1 MW fuel cell power plant installation at any college or university in the world, a highly efficient 2000 ton chiller plant and a most unique and sustainable sub tropical rainforest sustained by fuel cell and chiller plant waste by-products, thus achieving an optimal sustainable footprint for this unique power, heat and air conditioning plant. Tom is also the primary inventor for the Barometric Thermal Trap (BaTT, Patent Pending), a key device allowing optimal CHP efficiency of the fuel cell plant as well as enhanced CO2 recovery and management of the exhaust streams.
